Christianity and the Death of the Old Testament

Abstract: This article is the transcript of a conference presentation given for the “Christianity and the Death of the Old Testament” Conference at fbcBranson on October 6, 2017. In this presentation, Kyle Rapinchuk, following the work of Brent Strawn, argues that the Old Testament is like a language, and this analogy can help us understand the dire situation facing the Church with respect to its lack of fluency in the Old Testament. This presentation identifies certain problems and proposes a few solutions, but its primary purpose is to raise awareness of the need for churches to take seriously the loss of biblical understanding that follows from poor facility with the “language” of the Old Testament.
